I’ve implemented this feature for one project I was working on. d8dd07 is the original version, 50580d is the new one. Unfortunately Gist doesn’t offer any diff view. :-/
I can not assure that it’s working perfectly. :-)

__buildRangeFilterSQLfunction within the date field doesn’t seem to take into account the time (only the date).Please see this forum post for more details.
